Have you ever seen 2 accounts talk about the same topic but they leave you with completely different feelings?

This is what I call descriptive vs prescriptive (or information vs condemnation 😜)

Descriptive accounts tell you what they’re doing/using/learning and share information from a place of generosity and with the hope that it may be helpful for you, but do not attach any type of morality or “shoulds” to the topic.

Prescriptive accounts share with the undertone that if you’re not also doing, using, buying, or believing what they do, that you’re somehow not trying hard enough, not healthy/crunchy/homesteady/homeschooly/Christian/fit/mom enough.

Prescriptive accounts are often legalistic in their beliefs and approach and leave you feeling “less than”. Descriptive accounts share without expectations and leave you feeling educated and empowered whether you choose to implement any of the information learned or not.

This year, let’s seek out descriptive accounts that make us feel better when we close Instagram for the day!

After having three sets of front loaders over the past 20 years that had issues with mold, smells, and dingy clothes, we finally took a trip back to 1985 to find a reliable model that really works. #speedqueen #laundry #momlife #sahm #wahm #clean

Are you overwhelmed? I have heard this from so many of my friends lately and I’m coming out of a season of overwhelm personally. I have not been present on Instagram in over three months because it was adding to my overwhelm.

Here is what has been helping me and I hope it might be helpful to you as well.

Overwhelmed with your home? Purge everything unnecessary. Less stuff=less clutter=less visual noise & less cleaning=less overwhelm

Overwhelmed by your health? Unfollow. Unsubscribe. Stop consuming and start acting. Less input=less information=less decisions & choices=less overwhelm
For me, this meant unfollowing a significant number of accounts on social media. For you, it might mean selecting one or two of your favorite health accounts and unfollowing the rest or choosing to work with a practitioner instead of piecing together information off of Instagram.

Overwhelmed by your inbox? Unsubscribe! Less emails=less info=less choices or “fear” of missing a sale=less overwhelm

Overwhelmed by your schedule? Say no, quit activities, say no again 😉less commitments=less overwhelm

What are things that help you when you’re overwhelmed?? Let me know!

As we head into a time of year where both sugar consumption and emotions run high, let this be a reminder that uncontrolled blood sugar can lead to uncontrolled emotions. 🤪

Have you ever watched your children eat sweets and then have a melt down?

Have you ever not eaten enough at lunch and then snapped your child’s head off at 3 PM? 🙋🏼‍♀️

What about a general sense of lethargy and irritability that plague you after a few too many days of sugary snacks? 😞

The less sugar you eat, the more clearly you can see the effects of sugar when you or your children consume it.

How to combat this without feeling deprived or like a killjoy during the holidays? Start your day with a high protein, high fat breakfast with minimal carbohydrates. Starting the day with stable blood sugar makes it so much easier to maintain it for the rest of the day!

When you are going to have sweets, have them later in the day and when you have fat and protein on your stomach to blunt the blood sugar response.

Try healthier swaps for candies, reducing sugar in recipes (I usually cut the sugar in 1/2), or a paleo version of your favorite recipe as they tend to be more blood sugar friendly.

You can also go for a walk or do some form of physical activity after sweets to immediately increase your body’s usage of glucose.

Do you have a favorite tip to manage sweets and emotions around the holidays? Let me know what works for your family 👇🏻
